Use Remark columns to add free-text notes to report cells. Each remark is linked to a specific row and column intersection and stores audit information such as the author and modification date.
In this article, we will cover:
Remark Column Behavior
Remark columns support the following functionality:
Remarks support a maximum length of 500 characters.
Remarks support one-line plain text only.
The system tracks the remark author and modification timestamp.
-
Remarks are stored separately from the report structure.
Remark columns are available only in Reports. REMARK columns are not supported in Input Sheets.
Remark Scoping Modes
You can control how remarks behave when report filters change. The Link to slicers option determines whether remarks are shared across all filter selections or stored separately for each Entity, Time, and Scenario combination.
Per-Report Mode
Per-Report mode is the default behavior.
When Link to slicers is disabled:
Remarks are shared across all filter selections.
Changing Entity, Time, or Scenario does not change the remark.
Existing reports remain fully backward compatible.
Use this mode for general comments, such as:
Account deprecated
Reviewed by Finance
Slicer-Context Mode
When Link to slicers is enabled:
Remarks are stored separately for each Entity, Time, and Scenario combination.
Changing filters displays different remarks for each context.
Use this mode for context-specific comments, such as:
Q1 includes one-time adjustment.
Entity A restructuring impact.
Creating a Remark Column
Open the Column Editor.
Select Create.
Select REMARK as the column type.
Configure the caption and appearance settings.
Select Save.
Enabling Link to slicers
Open a report that contains a Remark column.
Select the Columns tab.
Select the Remark column, and then select Edit.
In the Appearance section, locate the Link to slicers check box.
Enable or disable Link to slicers as needed:
Select Link to slicers to store remarks separately for each filter context.
Clear Link to slicers to share remarks across all filter selections.
-
Select Apply.
The Link to slicers option is available only for Remark column types.
Switching Between Scoping Modes
If you change the Link to slicers setting on an existing Remark column, the system automatically converts existing remarks after you select Apply.
Switch from Per-Report Mode to Slicer-Context Mode
When you enable Link to slicers:
Existing remarks are linked to the current filter selection.
No data is lost.
Switch from Slicer-Context Mode to Per-Report Mode
When you disable Link to slicers:
Remarks from different filter combinations are merged.
If multiple remarks exist for the same cell, the system keeps the most recently modified remark.
Editing a Remark Column
You can configure the following settings for a Remark column:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Caption | Defines the column header text. |
| Style | Applies a global or custom style. |
| Visible | Shows or hides the column. |
| Link to slicers | Controls remark scoping behavior. |
Hiding a Remark column does not delete its remarks.
Duplicating or Removing a Remark Column
Duplicate a Remark Column
Duplicating a Remark column creates a new empty column. Existing remarks are not copied.
Remove a Remark Column
Removing a Remark column permanently deletes all associated remarks after confirmation.
Adding a Remark
Select a cell in the Remark column.
Enter your text.
Save the report.
Editing a Remark
Select the remark cell.
Modify the text.
Save the report.
Deleting a Remark
Select the remark cell.
Clear the cell contents.
Save the report.
Report Operations
Copying a Report
When you duplicate a report, the system copies all associated remarks.
Deleting a Report
Deleting a report removes all associated remarks.
Additional Information
Legacy remarks created before slicer-link functionality continue to work correctly.
Remarks remain backward compatible in both scoping modes.
Remark columns do not support rich text formatting or automatic text wrapping.
